IOL for adult amblyopia

Is an IOL with a stronger prescription a good idea for adult amblyopia where the 2 eyes are a great deal
apart in prescription ?  What do I expect from the outcome? will it help with the distortion, eye soreness,
will it provide comfortable everyday vision??  (I am 49 and have focus issues and strain in eyes daily) I
have had this all my life but the recent need for glasses for close work has complicated it to the point that
I cannot work....but cannot get on disability either, what do I do?

It depends on a lot of factors that are specific to your eyes.  you need to seek the advice of a competent ophthalmologist who could answer all these questions for you after a complete exam.

What is the reason of the amblyopia? What are your prescriptions now? Do you wear glasses now?
