I hope this helps somebody. Happened to me 12/21. I felt a sensation kind of like the popping of a lightbulb/that sound you hear after being too close a bomb exploding. Actually happened while I was masturbating. TMI I know but I think it’s related to some kind of brain-related overexertion. Since then My anxiety has gone way up, and led me into a depression. Somehow I’ve become a person easily startled, moody, aroused by stuff that normally disgusts - it’s kind of like I’ve been turned inside out since that happened. When ever I try to think normally (that is with the left side of my brain) I get slight headaches. Most notably, I kind of only feel like myself when I “think” with the right side of my brain, but that causes almost instantaneous headaches, which leads back to headaches on the left side of my brain. Maybe I’m combining all my issues into one, but since then it’s like I’m living all my worst fears at the same time. I used to be a very popular, confident, well-spoken, generally assertive individual, and now I don’t even know who I am anymore. I’ve isolated from friends and family, I feel like I’m even afraid of myself. I’m thinking I may be dealing with symptoms of adrenal fatigue, so I’m trying to improve my diet and sleep habits so that I can get my life back. It’s not easy because I’m living through depression but I figure it’s always darkest before dawn. Today I thought about death but I don’t want to die. Anyway I hope to find more answers or at least taking better care of myself improves my health.

I’ve experienced that exact sensation when about 12 years ago. I had been severely addicted to over the counter cough medicine I’d take 32+ capsules a day for over a year. One night when I felt that strange feeling of pressure building up in my head so I immediately headed down stairs so if I passed out or died atleast someone would see me but by the time I could get to the stairs there was a huge pop inside my head and like you described it felt as if If warm fluid was being poured into me from my head down to my toes. Very strange feeling indeed. I’ve asked a few people about it and they either don’t believe me or just have no idea. I just assumed I somehow miraculously survived an aneurism.
I just felt the same thing. I payed down to go to sleep and felt a pop in the back of my head to the right. When it happened my eyes were closed and I saw a bright flash in my eyes and then my sight came back. Can this be anything pill related?? I just took some anxiety medicine??
Hello, I experienced something similar a couple of nights ago. I was laying down trying to fall asleep and was laying on my left side, trying to find a more comfortable position I rolled over to my right side and as soon as I rolled over I felt a strong loud pop in the upper part of the back of my head. Startled, I immediately jumped up and started to feel an immense burning sensation go from the area I felt the pop to the rest of my head. This made me extremely anxious and I got so dizzy I could barely stand up, I felt like I had fluid running down the inside of my skull down to the base of my neck. These feelings would come in waves and got worse each time I felt them. As my anxiety grew I decided to go to the hospital because my symptoms were only getting worse. On the way to the hospital my hands started to get tingly and numb which spread into my arms, neck, face and even stomach. I literally felt like I was about to black out and die on the spot. I got to the hospital and they ran some basic tests which I passed showing no signs on brain injury so they gave me Ativan via IV to calm me down. I also felt like fluid was about to start coming out of my ears and I thought my brain was bleeding. Half of my symptoms were probably caused by the extreme anxiety attack I was having and I have deduced that I probably severely injured a major nerve in my neck as I still feel a mild burning in my neck and the area where I felt the pop. I also have 3 annular disc herniations in my cervical spine so this is probably the most likely cause of what I went through that night. I hope this response helped and I hope you get to the root of your condition. I wish you the best of luck!
It may have been a muscle tear in your head. This happened to me in the middle of the night. I woke up tense and in mid stretch, so I finished out my whole body stretch. I heard and felt a pop in the back of my head. A warm rush around my whole head followed. I had zero appetite and was nauseous for almost 24 hours. I had brain surgery about 6 months ago, so I feared I popped some of my surgeons work or popped a vein. I called my surgeon and he told me to come in for an MRI. Turns out it was unrelated to my surgery and was just a muscle tear. Nothing to fear, no surgery required.
*You can get a CT scan, but 6 hours after the incident it is best to get a MRI according to the emergency room doctor.
Yesssss. Mine causes me to have dizzy spells. Then it feels as tho i can black out to, so i just wait to see if something eles will happen. I suffer from anxiety and the doctors always blame things on that so i hesitate a lot on going. But i do understand. Im praying for you.
I felt a similar experience when i took 2 tabs of LSD. No noticable effects since, except my worrying about it.
I also experienced the popping sound last March 21 on the back of my nose, maybe in the Eustachian tube area, left side. I cried too much when my dog passed away. Then I got colds from all that crying. Then headache followed on left side of the head and pain on left sinus. I still experience headache on the left side occasionally.

I had this pop and a warm sensation exactly like you. I also waited for something to happen, but nothing:) went to the doc and was diagnosed with occipital neuralgia. There is a nerve in that area. No one has explained the popping sound though
I have been suffering from a Trumatic brain injury for years which has caused me to have a seizure disorder. I often get a liquid popping/explosion type sensation in various areas of my head over the years where there is also where there is also severe pain and numbness. I recently asked the neurologist about this strange liquid sensation and the neurologist did not reply or give any answer as to why I may be feeling this way. Since I deal with an extreme amount of pain on a daily basis from the seizure disorder/head injury it's difficult to know when I should be concerned about pain. In the past year the pain has taken more unique and varying forms such as sharpness, burning, pinching, numbness, and strange feelings I struggle to describe. My vision and hearing has been going in and out of focus and I've had my hearing tested and it's perfect but it doesn't seem like sometimes my brain is able to properly process sounds. Dr's have not been any help. I have also resently been having issues staying awake at time when I'm well rested. Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm dealing with or what I should be requesting from my DR's?
This same thing happened to me and also to my son. I layed down to go to bed when I heard and felt a pop on the left side of my head near the temple area. I saw a flash in my left eye and I immediately sat up to see if anything was wrong with me. I was fine. In the morning when I woke the left side of my head was hot. Throughout the next few days I could only tell anything had happened when I caughed or sneezed; I could feel an ache pain, like a headache after affect, near my left temple whenever I did caugh or sneeze.
When it happened to my son, he was twelve at the time, he was at school playing soccer. He said while he was running he felt and heard a pop in the back of his head. In that moment his head felt so heavy that he could hold it up and so he fell down. He went to the nurse but nothing was wrong with him.
This happened back in 2013. Still don't know what happened to us. It happened to me that one time. It happened to my son about three times.
Something else to note, at the time this happened we both also felt extreme neck fatigue. Not sore, not pain just tight and tired. It was at the back of our neck, where the neck meets the head. Trying to massage or get comfortable in any way was nearly impossible. It was the strangest thing.
This happens to me often! Most times It's a high pitched frequency that I hear in my brain as I fall asleep. Last night I heard what sounded like a power surge in my head, followed by white speckles of light that filled my close eyed vision. I immediately sat up to find the left side of my brain numb.
Have you found anything about this? Last night I found Exploding Head Syndrome online, but it doesn't talk about numbness our flashes of light.
I've experienced something similar. Was dealing with trauma and insomnia and a nervous breakdown. I was in the car with my boyfriend and we're fighting when I yelled I felt and heard on also top right semi back side of my head a huge pop or snap basically and freaked me the heck out and since I've been passing out from a standing position ill even black out for two seconds if I'm fighting with my boyfriend during a yelling spell lol but ill know I just lost consciousness but will remember sometimes what I'm saying. Sometimes if I pass out from standing I won't remember and even will lose time "hours" I'm so scared but I'm on Medicaid and can't get a doctor to thinks it's unusual for someone to do this that isn't abusing drugs. I even puke often like overheated type puking weird brusing from the inside under my bellybutton...woke up w it. And constipated but then will **** basically water and immediately Wil be constipated again. I always have the feeling of something stuck in my throat the lumps on my tongue are swollen. And seriously many different types of of symptoms headaches dizziness extreme fatigue ankles swell very dry itchy skin nauseous unexplained rashes that come and go heavy feeling in my pelvic area hurts mostly when coughing after sex ,only slightly during. Frequent infections lung and vag bacterial infections filled with yeast infection.shortness of breath lots of chest pain Ugh I hate feeling this way all the time I feel like I've got a few different things going on but how can I get help without overwhelming the doctor? I've already tried calling and going.in about this but two years no luck finding help. I wish someone could help me I've been so miserableand it effects everything I don't go out I don't move around much at all I'm 33 mother of 5. I've been so sick. But good luck to you. Hope everyone feels better. Bless you.
Hiya I know this may sound crazy, but have you heard of the 3rd eye before? This happens to people when they have been in a relaxed state and its funny enough you was trying to sleep? You may start seeing random lights, images and have more vivid dreams. If it is your 3rd eye, which it sounds like to me, you are starting to use the pineal gland of your brain. Look up the 3rd eye on youtube and try some tricks out with it. This is something spiritual. I aren't trying to convince you of anything, i am just saying give it a try. Told you I would sound crazy lol
I also am interested to know if anyone here actually trys my suggested remedy and gets results. I went to many doctors with this question about my brain pops and they all said that our brains aren't able to feel these sensations and that it must be muscle spasms on the outside of the skull. I've had muscle spasms above my eyebrow before and to me the sensation feels very different to the brain pops. Only one doctor bothered to give me a urine test and she was also the one that later recommended I take the magnesium supplement but it was almost 6 years ago and I can't remember whether her diagnosis was the result of that test.
I have had positive results with magnesium, chlorophyll, increasing my water intake and green foods like baby spinach. The problem also comes back if I neglect to keep taking these for a really long time - like many months later. To be more specific I take one magnesium tablet with my morning coffee. Drink about 1L or more of water throughout my working day. Before bed I take a 15ml shot of straight mixed berry flavoured chlorophyll - because it tastes the best, then rinse and swallow a cup of water because I don't want that stuff staining my teeth and to make sure I'm hydrated before I sleep. The chlorophyll makes you want cringe for the first week or two and for me a 15ml shot thrown down the back of the throat is the easiest way to get it down - the taste isn't unpleasant after so many years of using it even with month long gaps between using it.
I would like to know if anyone gives this a go and whether it helps or just to debunk it - it seems we have a wide range of scenario's here.
Also still consult a doctor regardless of what you read here but it took quite a few doctors before I got to this conclusion of mine.
ALSO!!! Login before you post - I almost had to write all this stuff twice and I don't know how many of you would bother with that.
Good luck
I see everyone post about similar experiences and asking questions and looking for answers.... If anyone has received any answers or results from doctors regarding these sensations please share with us. We are all on this post, reading and searching for help with the same concerns, but I don't see anyone following up with results that could potentially help the rest of us in need for answers. So again I just want to emphasize the desire for actual answers and results about what we are all concerned with- brain pops/ popping sensation/ oozing blood flowing afterward/ noises/ ect. Thank you!
Hi destiny, consider what I said about the magnesium supplement - I know my post has some bizarre claims about myself but the fact is most of us are lacking in magnesium which is a vital nutrient which protects nerves and helps muscles relax and have more elasticity.
Dark green vegetables or nuts are also a good source.
Hi Emma, my name is Destiny and Im a young teen Ive been having this popping for almost a year. I told my mom and she thought it was nothing then it started happening during school while I was in choir practicing a dance for a school function and it made me almost fall there are times that its not bad but then some are worse and I almost fall down. I went to the nurse and she had my mom take me to my family doctor and she just said it was a pulled muscle in my skull and handed me muscle relaxers and told me to go get massages because she thinks its because of so many knots in my back and neck. Ive taken the meds but havent gone to get massages yet. The meds dont work either I was at my work today and normally turned my head and it was one of the worst ones that has happened I almost fell on boxes but caught myself and sat down now the pain lasts only around 1-2 minutes for me it was less before but the pain now stays longer. Now Im not thinking its a pulled muscle does anyone have any recommendations for me? What kind of doctor should I go see? Should I have a ct scan? Thanks in advance who answers this.
Hello, my names Michael and what ever this is I have had it for many years. A small pop, snap or preassure pain in random areas that feel like they're somewhere in my brain, I feel like I can pinpoint the location where there occur. Doesn't happen often and sometimes it can happen a few times a day.
It doesn't seem to be related to my exertion or concentration levels and although sometimes mildly painful it doesn't seem to be causing me any disability.
I have also had the pain at the base of my skull which can cause some fairly bad migraines that take many hours to subside in its own.
On top of all this I have what seems to be a rare ability to tap into what could be my sympathetic nervous system. For example I can send sensations through my whole body and individual areas like any finger and toe. I can drain the blood from my skin and appear paler, and also make myself blush at will too. I can also do what I feel is an adrenaline kick and I exercise this trick probably too often, partly as a way to desensitize my mind from future unexpected adrenaline inducing events and mostly because I like the feeling.
It could be related to my epilepsy and my efforts to monitor it to anticipate seizures.
Taking some advice from one of my doctors I take a standard Magnesium supplement and make sure I'm always hydrated before I go to sleep and doing this I have fixed the migraine and most of the brain pops - I highly recommend giving this a try and it cheap too so why not.
I don't think any of this is much to stress about, our brains are very capable of working around internal problems, we have loads of neural channels and making new ones all the time.
Good luck and good health :)
Hello Emma, my name is Andrew. I saw this post after i searched about the burst of something unknown in my head yesterday night. The truth is, this is the second time it has happened to me. And i have come to realise it only happens when i really have heavy brain activity. Please shade some more light on what leads to your pop. More so, are your thoughts before the burst well illustrated? Are they coloured? Are they to full detail?
For example; do you imagina your thoughts in 3D, do you spine the images in your head to different angles and want small details from them: such as a moving hair piece or drop of sweat. Please reply if you can relate
Not sure if you still receive notice of comments here but your comments sound very similar to those of a CSF Leak (cerebral spinal fluid leak). Head pain/pressure, dizziness/vertigo similar to Menieres. Some other CSF leak symptoms include stiff neck/shoulders and pulling pain, and vision issues. Many people who suffer CSF leaks also have been diagnosed with EDS, with a common finding of "thin or paper thin dura".
Hi,
I was a doing an abdominal workout at home and found myself straining as it was quiet difficult. During this workout I felt a small pain occur in the mid left side of my head. Not sure what it was or whether its serious. Could anyone help me out.
