Hello,
When I was around 13 or 14 I had surgery for testicular torsion..i was playing around and got hurt..Everything seemed to heal fine and ie had no problems since, both testicles were saved (yeah)..my question however is; does that surgery stunt puberty in any way? I noticed that i kinda "slowed down" in my puberty stages in diff ways such as hair growth, penis size, maybe even height a little. I am now past the pubery stage of my life and was wondering if there is any possibility that it could have been a factor as far as producing hormones or something.
THanks
fred,
Hi,
Testicular torsion is an emergency situation that requires medical and surgical attention within 6 hours from onset of symptoms. The degree of recovery depends on the duration when the intervention was undertaken to correct the torsion and on other factors such as age, healing, etc.
If you received surgical correction soon after the torsion, it is possible that there may have been no or minimal damage to the testes and recovery would have progressed well. if not treated at the right time, testicular torsion results in death of the affected testes. The testes would be removed in such cases. If the torsion was not so complete as to cut off essential blood supply, the testes can survive to varying degrees. Function of the testes with reference to sperm and testosterone production may be impaired and can result in changes in the secondary sexual features and fertility depending on the deficit of testosterone.
A liquid bulge on top of the testes may be a cyst and may not require any active intervention. However, it is essential that you have it evaluated by a doctor and an ultrasound to define what it is exactly.
Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.

Hi,
Testicular torsion is a true urologic emergency and it is good that there was prompt treatment done. It can lead to infarction of testicle, loss of testicle, infection, infertility secondary to loss of testicle or cosmetic deformity. However, if diagnosed early, a near complete recovery is possible. Are there other signs or symptoms present? The liquid bulge could be a hydrocoele. A hydrocoele is a pocket of watery liquid that has built up around the testicle. More often this is because the liquid cannot drain into the circulation properly. It would be best to see your urologist for further evaluation and management.
