Testicular pain

I have BPH (an enlarged prostrate) ,and I have recently discovered after a back injury that I have a herniated disc at L4,L5 and a small inguinal hernia on the left side.I suffer pain in my lower abdomin and testicals. The testicular pain is constant and a dull pain that can get worse if I exercise ,play tennis, golf etc.I don't know if the testicular pain is coming from my back herniated disc or from the hernia. My nerologist thinks it is the hernia, although my GP thinks it os the back injury.I am scheduled to have the hernia repaired, hopin it might cure the testicular pain.Any thoughts?I am also constipated these days although do't know if there is any connection.

Thanks for your advice,I wonder if my substantially enlarged prostrate could be the cause of the testicular pain, rather than the small inguimal hernia. What are your thoughts .I have scheduled an operation on the hernia for early December 2008 hoping it might alleviate the testicular pain ,but now am wondering if I should get green light surgery on the enlarged prostrate instead or before the hernia operation.Any thoughts?

Hi,
How are you? Inguinal hernias occur when soft tissue usually part of the intestine protrudes through a weak point or tear in your lower abdominal wall. The resulting bulge of this common condition can be painful. Common symptoms of this condition are pain or discomfort in  groin, especially when bending over, dragging sensation over the groin. Ocassionally, in men pain and swelling in the scrotum around testicles can occur due to descent of the protruding intestine into the scrotum. This can cause intestinal obstruction, leading to constipation.

The bones (vertebrae) in the back are cushioned by small, spongy discs. When these discs are healthy, they act as shock absorbers for the spine and keep the spine flexible. But when a disc is damaged, it may bulge or break open. This is called a herniated disc. When a herniated disc pressess on the nerve roots, it can cause pain, numbness, and weakness in the area of the body where the nerve travels. Sciatica is the most common symptom of a herniated disc in the low back. With weakness in both lower limbs, there can be bladder and bowel dysfunction.

Your symptoms are more likely to be a inguinal hernia with intestinal obstruction. So, I think your problems would resolve with repair of the hernia.
All the best.
