Dear Medhelp,
I had a vaginal repair of my rectocele done 4 weeks ago. It was a very large rectocele and my colorectal surgeon referred me to a gynaecologist to do the repair. I have however still got massive problems with opening my bowels.I need to support my perineum upwards with my fingers , straining ++ and then fishing out the faeces. I am drinking lots of water and eating a high fibre diet. I take fybogel twice a day. The only thing that helps is Senocot which cannot be used longterm I believe. My own guess is that I have rectoanal intussception.
Do I need another operation? How soon can it be done after the rectocele repair? Do I have any alternative treatment? Should my colorectal surgeon have treated this with my rectocele? Is the surgery to repair this problem considered major surgery or will I bounce back like I did after the rectocele repair? (I am worried about missing more work). I am 38 years old.
