sounds like insurance fraud
I just saw my EOB and my insurance company was charged 18,200 and my part was 840.00!!!! How insane is that---I took one pill and was not even in the hospital.
Thanks for the info. I'm scheduled for RAI in May. Though I have an insurance , I just want to make sure.
Hi lurrry!
I live in WA & I also need radioactive iodine treatment. Which hospital did you go to and it would be nice if I could get some more information about the procedure and its costs.
Thanks a bunch!
i just had my uptake scan today with the radioactive iodine. without insurance it is aprox $840, however if i pay $532 within the next 30 days then ill get 30% off that price
For the treatment itself, it was about $350 for the actual radioactive iodine pill. However, we ended up paying my entire deductible ($1500) for the initial Iodine uptake scans and tests they give you before your RAI to determine how much Radioactive Iodine to give you. Remember you are charged for everyone you reads your labs, your copays for the hospital, Endocrinology visits, etc.
this is from ****.com, so I'm not sure how accurate it is but in any event:
"Is radioactive iodine expensive?
The answer to this question depends on the site that orders and administers the radioactive iodine, and may vary widely. At the Toronto General Hospital, the cost for outpatient radioactive iodine for the treatment of hyperthyroidism may range from $250 to $400 CAD, which is not that different from a years supply of medications (PTU or methimazole) used to treat hyperthyroidism.
