Other test that may be covered?

So I was advised to call my insurance to find out if genetic test and cystic fibrosis tests are covered.  My genetic screening isn't covered and is extremely expensive.. Almost $1000. Has anyone had any other type of genetic testing that was covered or more reasonable if you have to pay for it?

Yes, definitely ask your doctor about this.  I had the panorama genetic test done  (a blood test that is about 95% accurate screening for a variety of genetic disorders).   I was told that the maximum out of pocket cost would be $150 regardless of how much insurance paid.  The company that does this genetic test has contacts with various doctors offices and when this is the case they can guarantee a maximum price for the patient.  Ask your dr if they have a similar agreement in place and if so, call the testing company to confirm

Thank you all how responded.  My insurance will not pay even if I am over 35 or if medically necessary.  They just do not pay.  I will ask my Ob if she can order any other related similar test that may be covered. Thank you for your advice.

Mine covered it for me since I am over 35. I thought most did fir over 35. I would call your insurance to see what is or why they do not cover it. Maybe they is something similar that is covered.

Same here, 20% payment. Insurance covered the rest.

My insurance covered it but I had to pay my 20%. It just depends on your plan. Some insurance will not cover it because it's not "medically necessary". However, I disagree with them because it is a good way to test for problems so treatment can be started early.

The reader above is correct. If you're over 35, it's covered. I think it cost me $25.

If you are over 35 early genetic testing is covered. ..I got all my test done at 12 weeks...if you are under 35 then no its not covered

What about the quad screen? I think you usually do it around 16 weeks.  It's not as accurate as the first trimester screenings but it's how I found out my oldest son had a higher chance of having down syndrome. It led to a more detailed ultrasound & ultimately an amniocentesis, confirming that he did have down syndrome.

Wow...I said I wanted it but did not ask about price.. .this will be fun! TOO BAD INSURANCE DOES NOT SEE BENEFIT OF EARLY GENETIC TESTING.
