Osgood Schlatter's disease of the knee in a 13 yr old

tmv
Hi, I apologize if this isn't where I should ask this question. I'm not sure where to ask. Anyhow, my 13 year old son has been having right knee pain, just above the knee cap, occasionally below. The pediatrician today says that more than likely it is osgood schlatter's disease, but he wanted me to make an appt with an orthopedic. I was wondering any info on what has helped other's with this and should he see an orthopedic surgeon or sports injury dr. Of course, the office is closed and I never seem to think of any questions while I'm there. Thank you in advance for any info.

You should try prolotherapy, it really works, my wife's brother has same problem, he's 21 and tried this treatment, I don't think it was covered by insurance, but I know it really helped him alot. A lot od DO's do this and pain management doctors, I was surprised to see the doctor I knew doing this because he specialized in weight loss, but he stated that many obese patients have chronic knee problems, which makes sense. Maybe you could call this Dr. and ask him if he knows any other docotrs in your area that specialize in this, I know he had to take classes for this. His name is Dr. Kerendian, he is located in Beverly Hills.

Thank you so much for your reply. Our insurance will cover an orthopedic surgeon and he has an appt at the end of August. Thank you again.

My daughter had both knees affected by osgood shlatter's and she had a lot of pain. She is very tall and wanted to play basketball and could not unless she wanted to be in pain. Make sure they take good x-rays because it could be other things. A sport injury doctor would not be a bad idea becasue then your son maybe able to do sports. Our insurance did not cover that kind of doctor. Good luck to your son.
