Hi and thaks for your reply and info :)
I had a bad motorcycle accident in 2003 and both arms were broken. I've had intramedullary rod's placed in both arms. My right arm has been giving pain for a while now so have been to GP and sent for x-rays.
The findings:
Left side.
There is an insitu intramedullary rod transfixing an old united fracture involving the proximal half of the humerus. There is extensive dense callus formation which is causing deformity of the contours around the fracture site.
Right side.
There is an insitu intramedullary rod with surrounding callus formation but union is however yet to take place.
There is normal allignment of the glenohumeral joints bilaterally.
Doesn't sound good to me ... :(
I've got some pictures hosted if you could be so kind to have a look?

Appreciate your help.
Hello Dear,
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that replaces missing bone with material from the patient's own body, an artificial, synthetic, or natural substitute. Bone grafting is used to repair bone fractures that are extremely complex, pose a significant risk to the patient, or fail to heal properly.
Autologous bone is typically harvested from intra-oral sources as the chin or extra-oral sourses as the iliac crest of the pelvis.
Grafts may be made from hydroxylapatite, a naturally occurring mineral that is also the main mineral component of bone.Hydroxylapetite is called Synthetic Bone Graft it is the most used now among other synthetic due to its osteoconduction , hareness and acceptability by bone there are also calcium carbonate which start to decrease in usage because it is completely resorbable in short time which make the bone easly to break again finally used is the tricalcium phosphate which now used in combination with hydroxylapatite thus give both effect osteoconduction and resorbsbility
What is the indiaction in your case?
Why it has been suggested?
