Is it Ok to wait and see for lesions on MRI or is damage being done right now?

I recently went to my primary who immediately sent me to a neurologist due to the following symptoms: numbness and tingling in hands, feet, arms and legs, as well as life altering fatigue.  I have been experiencing symptoms since early July 2008.   The neurologist put me on the taper pack of Medrol (methyl pred) after negative MRI of brain and spinal cord, I had improved energy in the middle of the Medrol and then fell into previous symptoms by the end of the taper.  The neuro ordered a lumbar puncture, also normal.  At my most recent appt. he suggested clinically isolated syndrome.  He stated that I had hypereflexes and loss of sensation, particularly on left side.  My latest symptoms include hand tremors, left side facial numbness, and at times excruciating leg pain, extreme fatgiue, light headedess, and some vomiting.
The neuro suggested a repeat MRI in 6 months as he could not treat me without any diagnosis, he also suggested a second opinion with his professor an MS specialist if I was not comfortable with what he was saying.  I never suggested that I was not comfortable with what he was saying, but as I have done my own research I am now wondering if it is Ok to just get through these 3 months ( the amount of time the neuro says he expects this CIS to last) or should I see the second opinion, without a positive MRI or LP?

Thanks for the information but doesn't seem to fit my issue.  I have numbness with intermittent burning sensation, itching, and then tightness.  Everything is still symmetrical, except for my tongue tip which points left mildly, something I have been paying close attention to as a speech-pathologist.  I will look into the RH syndrome, however, never know when I may run into a patient with those symptoms.  Good luck to you, best wishes.

You said you have facial numbness, is there any drooping? paralysis? feeling like you've been shot up at a dentist's with novacaine?   Can you wrinkle your forehead, raise your eye brow?  Can you see a weakness in your smile on the left side?  Do you have an ear ache? jaw pain?  Do you have bumps, like pimples in or around your ear or mouth?  If these sound familiar, you may want to look into Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
I am not a medical person, just a patient with a "rare" often misdiagnosed illness.
