About 4 weeks ago, I gave unprotected oral sex to a new partner. (I'm female, he's male.) I do not know his previous sexual history, but I know I'm not his first partner. (In hindsight, not using protection was a foolish choice.)
Within 2 days, I developed a fever, sore throat, coughing, congestion, etc. I was hoarse for about a week. A doctor told me I had an upper respiratory virus, and I chalked the sore throat up to this. Most of the symptoms cleared up in a week or so.
However, over three weeks later, I still have the sore throat and can now see white-ish bumps in the back of my throat. They're difficult to see because they're located along the sides of my pharynx and the lower back part of my tongue, but they're white bumps with red borders, most often in clusters. I also have some on the back sides of my tongue, one cluster on each side, right where the tongue meets the back molars. There's a large patch on the back of my tongue, and I can feel a patch in my throat when I cough.
Four days ago, I visited the doctor about my still-sore throat. He said I had herpangina, a non-STD virus. However, everything I've read about herpangina says that it clears up within a week max. I have had these bumps and pain for over three weeks now, so I'm wondering...
Is there a chance I have oral warts due to HPV? Because I can't really see the bumps/ulcers/sores due to their location, how can I tell? Should I go back to the doctor? (Sexual contact wasn't mentioned the first time, as the doctor seemed sure it was herpangina.) Is there a test for oral HPV?
Thank you for any answers you can provide!!
