Hi Bill,
Thank you for the info on shunt T.I.P.S very helpful.
All the info I have on P/H is from a C/T scans and needle biopsy I had 3yrs ago. Had another C/T a month ago and again mild splenomeagly, prominent venous collaterals and varices, combination suggest P/H.
I am seeing new Doc at a large teaching medical facility here and am planning on discussing with him treatment again. I did not know till I found this forum that you can treat for 72 weeks wish I'd known.
Again thanks for help with my question.
Hope you are doing well.

Sorry to hear about your relapse, I’ve been there myself. How long ago did you treat for HCV?
What criteria are being used to diagnose your portal hypertension? It is generally a condition noted by symptom; i.e. enlarged spleen, varicies, caput medusa, etc, none of which are common in stage 3 liver disease, to my knowledge.
By shunt, I assume you’re referring to the T.I.P.S procedure; this is normally reserved for late stage use, and is not really intended to be a cure, but a stop gap measure to buy time for transplant. If esophageal varicies are present, they can be “banded” with very little risk, and exceptional short term outcome
I had splenomegaly per U/S scan three years ago, which might suggest portal hypertension, but I was late stage 3 per needle biopsy.
Have you considered treating again with a different interferon to see if you can elicit a response, given your tolerance to treatment last time?
Others in here might have additional info on TIPS from a personal standpoint, and might shed some light on this subject as well.
Take care,
Bill
