Stomach pain near or behind navel

Hello,

I sit a lot on on the rug in my living room, not much exercise.  Lately, I get an occassional pain near or around the navel.  It feels like a sharp needle poke sometimes, or other times a dull sensation about the size of a quarter around two or three inches off the side of the navel near the surface.

I think it could be excess gas poking here & there, but I was concerned because a couple of weeks ago, I may have pulled something near that area.  At that time, it felt like a pulliing sensation behind the navel.  Lasted a few moments, for a few days.

Is it gas, pulled muscles, lack of exercise, milk products (non-fat milk,) sitting in the position and/or all the above?  Any ideas on the pins/needle poke sensations???

Thank you.

Sounds like an umbilical hernia to me.  I have had this condition for at least 10 years.  It is exacerbated by strenuous exercise, and pain increases sharply upon urination.  Comes and goes.  If it is really bad it can be surgically treated.

I have an umbilical hernia, which is usually harmless.  I coughed when I wasn't expecting it, and I had a pain above my navel.  It swelled there and my gastro doc said it was a hernia.  The discomfort went away after a few weeks, but I still have an unattractive bulge on my navel.  Anyhow, that's what it turned out to be for me.
