Hi,
Surgery is indicated only if medical therapy fails.
There are various surgical options available like Nissen , Toupet and Dor, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Esophyx is a recent development wherein the LES is corrected endoscopically.

Hi,
I Had surgery for gerd because I had a weak LES and a hiatal hernia. The surgery helped a little but did not eliminate the problem completely, it brought new ones to the table, like a lot of gas, bloating, abdominal pain and discomfort, I rather go back to the way I was before. My GERD was horrible but if I was to avoid certain foods it would get better, Things that have worked for me in the past are Aloe juice, and about 5 apples a day, meds I dont take them no more, I think drugs cause more problems in the long run, There is a new surgery called Esophyx and wich I might get in the future look it up it suppose to replace the LES....hope I helped.....
Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I will take what you said into consideration and research the new procedure you mentioned, Esophyx. I will also check out the Aloe juice. I've been told that a spoonful of apple cider vinegar will cet rid of reflux....never tried it though.
Many Thanks
