silicone oil and scleral buckel

I had a retinal detachment and placement of silicone oil and vitrectomy and a scleral buckel 4 months ago. I was told that the oil and the buckel could cause problems, but I was never told what problems to be aware of. Are there specific symptoms associated with something going wrong with the oil in my eye and with the scleral buckel? What symptoms should I watch for??

When was the last time you saw your surgeon? You should be seeing him approximately every 3-4 weeks, DEPENDING ON YOUR CONDITION,.We cannot precisely know your condition.

It is very important that you make an appointment this week and ask him all your questions, including what you have to watch out for, precautions you should take, his thoughts about your possible recovery, and if/when he plans to remove the oil... Possible changes that are negative are clouded vision due to scar tissue, the retina re-detaching, problems with your cornea, or a cataract. But we cannot predict your needs, because your surgeon/doctor is the only one who can do that.

I have silicone oil for the second time. I see my doctor as needed--if there are changes/or every 2-3 months, if there are no changes.

If you have more questions, write back.
