Spots on 3YO face - like freckles, but not

Hi

I have a 3YO who has these little flare ups every now and then where he gets these little spots on his upper face - they are small like freckles, but kind of reddish. They pretty much start at his nose and go up to his forehead.

About a year ago when my 10 month old was born, my parents were here and were watching my then 2YO and he had a blanket over his head like a ghost and fell into the ledge of the window - missing his eye, but fractions of an inch. He had a nice black and blue eye. About a month later these spots started to show up around his eye. They would come and go. So I made a dermatologist appt. and he said it was a flare up likely from the fibers of the blanket - it was a fleece blanket. He said the fall could have been hard enough and made these little fibers go in his skin and it was just a flare up from the irritation. Well then it was just right eye, now the spots are on his whole upper face. I know it's not mumps, measles, chicken pox etc. because it comes and goes.

I'm wondering if it is an allergy response. I guess grass and tree pollen are moderate to high right now in Texas. He doesn't complain about anything bothering him. His nose started running on Monday - it's clear and I think that is allergy related and then the spots flared up again.

I'm wondering if anyone's kids have this issue and if so, is it an allergy response or something else?

Thanks!

Vicki

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Such spots which come and go are due to hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Mostly they are due to allergic reaction.

If the symptoms persist then get an evaluation done by a dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hello, wow I am so happy to find another mom in a similar situation. My son has contact dermatitis a year and half ago where his whole face became swollen. Ever since then he also has "freckle like" marks on his face that can flare up when he gets hot. I have been to numerous dermatologists and have still not found a solution. This is what I have heared so far it could be: broken capillaries, a form of wart or begnin cephalic histiocytosis. My dermatologist said if they go white when you push your finger across them, then it's nothing to worry about. I'm sorry I don't have any other information for you. Hope this helps!
