Impetigo or Herpes

Last year I had an outbreak on my lips and my doctor said it was impetigo. They put me on an oral antibiotic but then the symptoms did not subside after a few days leading them to think it was HSV1 and they prescribed Valtrex. After a few days and some rest it went away and scabbed over. Note: The bumps on my lips went across the entire lip, oozed a yellowish- clear liquid, and then scabbed and healed.
Fast forward 8 months later, I start getting more and more mini-outbreaks, not as bad as the first one. My doctor gives me an HIV and Herpes Bloodtest and both come back negative. She took my off the Valtrex Friday and it's now Monday and I have an outbreak as bad as my first one. I can't go to work, because I don't know what I have and I work with kids so that would not be a good idea. My doctor gave me Mupirocin for my lips and I am scared it's not going to work because I still believe I have herpes even though the bloodwork came back negative. I told her it may be a false negative and she said it's not a possibility and believes I do not have HSV1.

I hope this cream helps, but I have no idea what to do next. I look awful. Help.

if it was on your whole lip, it is more like a bacteria infection, because herpes, only affects a certain spot, or side of your face, because they only infect a specific nerve on your face.

negative hsv1 can also mean dormant hsv as well. In addition Herpes simplex 2, and shingles can cause similar symptoms as well.

Negative HSV antibody results mean that it is unlikely that the person has been exposed to HSV or that the body has not had time to begin producing HSV antibodies.

Do continue with Mupirocin.
