autoimmune disorder Palindromic Rheumatism

Have had palindromic rheumatism for 20 years and medications do not last.Latest med is Cimzia, have tried all the rest and have had no lasting effect.
My question is, could there be a possible link to my immune system disorder by way of bacteria and viruses exposure  during my tour of duty in the republic of Vietnam back in the 70"s ?

Thank You for the response, Yes I have been tested for Whipple's and also fluid in the knee once for pseudo gout, all negative. Just receintly have had the RA factor show up in blood work, since years ago never showed up. Also x-rays show no joint damage. Have read that MRI can show joint damage, will have that done soon, Thanks

Family history, sorry forgot to ask if there is anything outstanding with family history of arthritis, other conditions or symptoms they suffered from or premature death?

Take care...C

Hi there, have they ruled out all other possibilities? There may be other underlying systemic condition, like it is usually seen as a manifestation of gastrointestinal disorders, like Whipple's disease, which can be diagnosed, but if left untreated or undetected can lead to many life-threatening issues.

Diagnosis of PR is very difficult and can take time, and other things such as acute gouty arthritis and acute RA need to be ruled out. Fluid can be analyzed from joints to distinguish this from others causes. CRP can be elevated as well as ESR results, but usually everything proves "normal". RA markers can be there if someone is disposed to RA.

When were your last blood tests, and what were the findings? Were there anything flagged or abnormal? Have you had any recent exams or differential diagnoses? Do you have other conditions/symptoms/disorders?

Would love to help more, and sorry to hear of your troubles...C
